HMI concepts

This watch is designed to be controlled only by touching the screen. Buttons and wheel are useless.

At any moment, menus can be opened or closed by touching the center of the screen.

All menus are composed of up to 4 buttons placed all around the center.

After 5 seconds of inactivity, menus will fade away automatically. Press the center of the screen to make it appear again.

The watchface

The watchface screen is composed of several parts which can vary from one theme to another. The display can also be changed with the options you will discover in the menus.

The information you will find is:

  • The current time,
  • At the bottom of the screen, the current date and the current battery level,
  • The current flight time (not available on all themes),
  • The current fuel level in the middle of the screen (available only with the default and the sunset themes),
  • The fuel flag which blinks when fuel level is critical.

See some examples:

The chronometer

From the version 1.8, you can double tap at any time (except in the menu and the fuel page) the watchface screen to start/stop/reset the chronometer (the thin red hand).

The chronometer is not blocked if you enter the menu or of you change the theme.

When the screen is ON, the watch will vibrate every minute passed since the chronometer started. When the screen is OFF (power saving mode), no vibrations will be generated but the chronometer runs in background.

Current day and battery level

With the version 1.9, the current day and the battery level are now always visible on the watchface. They have moved in a place where it can’t be masked by notification icons of Tizen OS.

Setup before flight

Enter setup menu

When the watchface is not in flight mode, just press the center of the screen then press the buttom button.

Enter the setup menu when you want to configure alarms or fuel data. If you fly in the same aircraft, fuel data don’t need to be changed before every flight. All settings are saved in your Samsung Gear’s memory and loaded when the PgW watchface is started.

Select your timezone

When you enter the setup menu, the first setting is the timezone. You can select either local or UTC time mode.

When mode is UTC, the UTC flag is displayed on the hour hand.

Sunrise and sunset times

On the top left and top right of every menu page, you can read the sunrise and sunset times. These values are calculated by the watch using your current GPS location and current date.

Depending on your latitude and the current date, the sun may never rise or may never set. In this case, the times are not applicable and a specific label is displayed.

If the GPS is not activated or the GPS location can’t be determined, the sunrise and sunset times are undefined. In this case, values are replaced by “xx:xx”.

Alarms

The second page of the menu is about alarms.

This feature is activated when the PgW alarms addon is installed on your Samsung Gear S3. Otherwise, alarms are always OFF.

Touch the left button to activate/deactivate alarms

See alarms addon section of this manual for more information.

Themes

The next page of the menu is about themes. Themes changes the watchface and the indicators displayed on it. You have 5 themes :

  • Default theme : the watchface is the standard PilotGWatch design with fuel gauge, fuel light and flight duration.
  • Dark theme : the watchface is dark, thin numbers, without fuel gauge but the fuel light and the flight duration.
  • Dark2 theme : the watchface is dark, bold numbers, without fuel gauge, fuel light and flight duration.
  • White theme : the watchface is white, thin numbers, without fuel gauge, fuel light and flight duration.
  • Sunset theme : the watchface is black, bold numbers in orange, with fuel gauge, fuel light and flight duration.
  • Chrono theme : the watchface is red and black. Two gauges are dedicated to the chronometer feature. Fuel indicators are not visible. Date and battery gauge are not visible.

Touch the left button to change the theme.

You can select a theme for the general use of the watchface and select a theme for in-flight use of the watchface.

The theme for in-flight mode will be set automatically as soon as you start your flight. The main theme is set automatically when the flight is over.

The number of tanks depends on the active tank configuration.

You can see graphically the volume in the active tank changing while you press the buttons.

The fuel unit is displayed only at the bottom of the screen.

PgW automatically computes the autonomy and the total volume. It is displayed at the bottom of the page. Touch these values to confirm your setup and close the fuel page.

The active tank is shown with a large white border.

Start

When the watchface is not in flight mode, just press the center of the screen then press the top button.

When in flight mode, fuel indicators appear on the screen :

  • Fuel autonomy indicator : Yellow arc displayed around the screen. When autonomy is greater than 1hrs, the arc is displayed all around the watchface with just a little gap before the minute hand.
  • Fuel low level indicator : Amber fuel symbol at the center of the screen. It flashes when the fuel level of the active tank is low

If you see none of these indicators, you’re not in flight mode !

The fuel autonomy indicator is also visible on the fuel page.

An additional yellow gauge is displayed at the center of the watch face. It displayed the current tank’s space level. This gauge is always active (in flight or not). The more it gets larger, the less fuel you have in the active tank.

In flight

Start a leg

When the watchface is in flight mode, just press the center of the screen then press the bottom button.

The leg duration is displayed on the left button. Top and Bottom buttons are used to increase and decrease the duration. The right button resets the duration to the default value : 15mins

Press the left button to confirm the value.

You can cancel the operation by tapping the center button. It closes the menu. The leg is not started.

A new indicator is visible when a leg duration is set. It is a green arc, displayed along the fuel indicator around the watch face.

This arc is visible when you set the duration. As long as the duration is not confirmed, it will follow the minute hand.

This arc is also visible when you are in the fuel page. The minute hand is also represented by a small white mark.

When the duration is confirmed, the leg indicator is blocked so you can easily see where the minute hand is in this green arc: You clearly see the start time and end time of the leg. You also see the time spent and the remaining time graphically.

You can define a leg at any time during flight. Even if a leg is already active. Just repeat the entire procedure.

Check fuel

When the watchface is in flight mode, just press the center of the screen then press the right button.

All volumes and times are updated every seconds.

Touch the total volume and the autonomy at the bottom of the page to close the fuel page.

Change fuel tank

When you’re in the fuel page, just press the tank you want.

To select the supplementary tank, the main tank MUST be active. When the supplementary tank is active, its fuel is consumed before the main tank’s fuel.

All indicators and remaining time are updated in a second.

Check flight duration

On the default theme, the little hand located on the upper right of the fuel indicator gives you the number of hours spent in flight.

On the theme “Dark”, this indicator is on the middle right of the screen.

On the other themes, this indicator is not visible.

Maximum duration is 7 hours. After this limit, the hand stops turning.

You can also check the flight duration by swiping the screen from the bottom to the top: it displays the summary page which shows the start time and the actual flight duration.

Swipe the screen from the top to the bottom to hide the summary page.

End flight

When the watchface is in flight mode, just press the center of the screen then press the top button.

A summary page will show up. It shows the start time, the end time and the total duration of your flight. Swipe the page to the bottom to hide it (it can be displayed again by swiping the watchface from the bottom to the top at any time).

Markers

When you activate markers in the configuration menu, they will appear on the watch to mark every major event of your flight :

  • Start of flight: green marker ‘FS’
  • Every new leg: white marker with the leg number inside
  • Every fuel tank change: orange marker with the tank name : M (Main), L (Left), R (Right), S (Supplementary)
  • End of flight: red marker ‘FE’

Markers are permanent. To reset them, you have to:

  • Start a new flight
  • Enter the fuel configuration page before a flight

Markers are placed using the minutes and seconds of the time of the event. So they may not be aligned with the minute hand.

Add-ons

Alarms

When the PgW Timer App is installed, PgW programs 5 alarms for every leg having a duration greater than 5 minutes. These alarms generates a sound and vibrations. They also show a dedicated page. The alarms are :

  • End of the leg : The sound is ring tone. 5 short vibrations
All pages fade away by pressing the lower hardware button of your watch after the sound and the vibrations end. Don’t press the upper button. All alarms are deactivated when flight is over. You can check the user manual of the PgW Timer App here: PgWTimer User Manual When a leg is started, to confirm that alarms will be generated, a screen appears to show you when the next callout will occur in minutes.

The alarms will trigger 30mn before the end of the tank and 15mn before the end of the tank.

The screen will show you this message. Press the lower hardware button of your watch to close this message and return to the watchface screen.

Fuel level alarms

If the PgW Timer App is installed, the fuel tank switch alert can be set.

It displays a specific alert screen (see screenshot on the right).

Press the lower hardware button of your watch to close this message and return to the watchface screen.
